 20th Anniversary Amateur Photography Contest

In 2006, in celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Martha’s Vineyard land bank held an amateur photography contest. Amateur photographers from near and far entered photographs.  Several dozen were received showing beautiful landscapes and views of the land bank’s properties.

A panel of judges which included Debbie Grant and Ron Howard, both professional photographers from the local community, and Cindy Krauss, land bank fiscal officer, chose the winning pictures.

First place was awarded to “View from the Boardwalk” --- taken at the Farm Pond Preserve and submitted by Juleanne VanBelle of West Tisbury.
Second place was awarded to “Evening Reflection” --- taken at the Priester’s Pond Preserve and submitted by Max Skjoldebrand of West Tisbury.

Third place was awarded to “Late Springtime Splendor” --- taken at the Blackwater Pond Reservation and submitted by Patrick Stiriti of Edgartown.

The winning photograph was placed on the cover of the following issue of the land bank’s conservation lands map, which is available at the land bank office and all town halls and libraries.  The second and third place photographs were shown on the inside of the map.  All of the winning photos described above are on display at the land bank offices.  The public is invited to come and see them.
